5 Gatlinburg Christmas Events Your Family Won't Want to Miss

The winter weather is definitely making its way to Gatlinburg. The fall leaves are at their peak, but quickly coming to an end as the colder temperatures move into the mountains. When you're planning your getaway, there's a few events you should know about. Check them out below:

2014 Gatlinburg Winterfest

The Gatlinburg Winterfest Winter Magic event kicks off on November 12 with a chili cookoff and the lighting of over 1 million LED holiday lights across the area. Throughout the entire holiday season, all the way through the end of February, the lights will continue to sparkle all over Gatlinburg. During the winter season, the lights are one of the most popular things to do to celebrate the Gatlinburg Christmas season.

Gatlinburg's Festival of Trees

From November 25-29, visitors to the Smoky Mountain area can experience Gatlinburg's Festival of Trees.There will be hundreds of theme-decorated trees and a gingerbread house competition. This event is great for kids and adults, so make sure to visit when you're in the area! Benefits of this event help support the Smoky Mountain Area Rescue Ministries.

Gatlinburg Winter Magic Tunes and Tales

Every year, Gatlinburg welcomes the holiday season with a little Christmas caroling and holiday cheer with the Winter Magic Tunes and Tales events. During the events, visitors can see street performers and set ups throughout downtown Gatlinburg every Friday and Saturday evening. Shows will take place from November 28 through December 20. Each show begins at 5 p.m.

Nutcracker Sweet

Once again, the Great Smoky Mountain Dance Theatre will put their spin on the classic show, bringing the Nutcracker Sweet to Gatlinburg! Performances are at 7 p.m. on November 28 and 29 at the W.L. Mills Auditorium in the Gatlinburg Convention Center. Tickets can be purchased by calling (865) 680-7369.

Fantasy of Lights Gatlinburg Christmas Parade

One of the most visited Gatlinburg parades, the Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade is set for December 5, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The parade will run from traffic light #1A to traffic light #10 on the Parkway in Gatlinburg.The parade features hundreds of entries, including marching bands, parade floats and oversized balloons. Kids absolutely love this Gatlinburg event, so make sure to take the entire family!
